You  should note that marriages in the Anglican churches in Jersey are dependent upon residential qualification.

You may marry in St. Mary’s church if----

1.You are resident in the Parish of St Mary.

2.You have a demonstrable pastoral connection ie your parents live in St Mary, you or your parents previously lived here, your parents or grandparents were married here, or are buried here.

If none of these apply to you, then you will need to create a personal pastoral connection to our church by attending church on a regular basis. Without these connections you cannot be married here under Jersey Ecclesiastical Law.

Non –Residents may have a service of blessing following a civil ceremony either at the Registry Office or one of the other venues available on the Island.

In the Church of England the re-marriage of divorcees in church is at the discretion of the parish priest. Here at St Mary’s we try to meet people in an open and generous way. If one or other of you is divorced, you will need to meet first with The Rector to talk through the possibilities of a church marriage.

Enquiries and bookings should be made by contacting the Churchwarden, Frank Wood on 01534 869 540.

Marriage preparation is seen as very important and in addition to meeting the Rector to discuss the practical aspects of your marriage, he will want to talk to you about the spiritual aspects too.

The fees charged for marriage in church are set by the Dean of Jersey annually, and you will be informed of these fees when you book. These are payable at the rehearsal in church during the week before the marriage.

If you do not live in St Mary’s Parish, a Dean’s Licence will be required for the marriage to take place, rather than the calling of Banns in the usual way. A small fee is charged, and again, the Dean (as Ministre Desservant) will make the necessary arrangements for the Dean’s Licence to be obtained.
